Google killing off Blogger and Picasa brands

Say goodbye to Picasa and Blogger. Well, the names at least. “Sources familiar with the matter” have told Mashable that both services are set to be rebranded as part of a push to ensure the popularity of the newly launched Google+ social network.

Picasa is set to become Google Photos while Blogger will dubbed Google Blogs. The insiders also intimated that other Google services that don’t use the Big G’s moniker are likely to be changed too, although YouTube is set to keep its Google-free title.

Word is the change will happen in the next month to six weeks, aimed at tying in with the public launch of Google+. The service is currently invite only.

What do you make of Google’s plans? Will these changes only serve to confuse? Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
