Sky has confirmed that the iPhone and iPads for its rebranded Sky Go service will arrive in time for the Premier League football season in August.
The service formerly known as Sky Player arrived in its new, somewhat similar guise, for Mac and PC this week, but the launch of the iOS apps will come slightly later. Until that time, existing Sky Mobile TV users will be able to continue using their iOS apps.
The new iPhone, iPad and iPod touch app, which is free to all current Sky TV subscribers, will allow users to watch all five Sky Sports channels (1, 2, 3, 4 and News), as well as ESPN and Sky News, on the go if you have the corresponding TV package.
The company says that it plans to add more channels and devices to the service over time and that the roll-out is supported by its recent acquisition of The Cloud, which offers free Wi-Fi in over 4,500 locations across the UK.
If you don't have a Sky home subscription, you'll be able to sign up for a Sky Go package costing between £15 and £40 a month from August.
We like this news, it makes us feel like the footy season is just around the corner.
