The Brazos Performance Preview: AMD E-350 Benchmarked

Last week I mentioned that I had recently spent some time with AMD down in Austin, TX, benchmarking its upcoming Brazos platform. The Brazos platform is composed of an AMD Zacate or Ontario APU and the Fusion Controller Hub (a South Bridge based on the SB800 series). Brazos systems will run the gamut of mainstream notebook, netbook and nettop segments ranging from $299 to around $500. While AMD let us reveal the fact that we tested Brazos, we weren't allowed to publish numbers last week. Today, we can.

Kik Messenger sued by RIM

Real time texting app Kik Messenger is reportedly being sued by BlackBerry makers RIM, who feel it is a little too similar to its BBM platform. RIM is citing patent infringement as its reason for legal action, and has already kicked Kik Messenger off BlackBerry App World.

Verizon Wireless announcing 4G LTE roll-out December 1st

Verizon has just announced that they will be holding a news conference on December 1st to detail the launch of its next-generation, 4G, LTE network. With plans to go-live in “38 metropolitan areas, covering more than 110 millon people” before the end of the year, this would be the world’s largest LTE deployment. While the network is set to go live before 2011, customers will have to wait until early next year for LTE-compatible handsets to start making the rounds. Data products like USB data sticks and Mi-Fi-type devices should be available reasonably soon, however. Now, where’s that HTC Incredible HD? Read

Business Horoscopes: December 2010

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
For the past few weeks, Sagittarians have been patiently waiting for Jupiter to settle down into its regular orbit, bringing back high profit potential for work-related projects, be it a new product line or an altered business model. But with the planet of confusion, Neptune, positioned directly in front of the new moon, communicating with partners could prove harder than usual. Maybe our article on adaptive communication styles can be of use?

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
December is the most stressful month of the year for just about everyone, but this year Capricorns are especially adept at dealing with holiday tumult. The new moon will put those born under the 10th zodiac sign in a focused mood when everyone else is feeling frazzled, and the difference will show. Especially to angel investors at the office Christmas party.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
Throughout the past few months Mars has been traversing your professional sector garnering the attention of very influential people in your industry. Now that your reputation precedes you, it's time to make contact with potential investors. The new moon brings with it two weeks of unbounded career-focused energy and optimism at the beginning of the month. Schedule your meetings now. To prep: How to Master Your Elevator Pitch.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)
The first weeks of December are all about media outreach. The planets align to focus on your 10th house of fame and recognition, meaning the journos out there will be beating a path to your door. Don't have a PR department yet? Learn how to be a PR army of one.

Aries (March 21-April 19)
Three major planets are changing direction this month in Aries' star chart. If you felt like your business was stagnate over the last year or so, you'll feel an influx of creative energy, directed especially at boardroom matters. Don't be afraid to pitch new ideas to your company partners. The planets have your back this month.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)
The planet Venus is taking a leisurely jaunt in Taurus's house of committed collaborations, and not planning on leaving the vicinity anytime soon. This means it's a good time for the usually stubbornly independent Bull to think about the perks of bringing in a business partner. Check out our guide to courting the perfect business partner.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)
You've run a tight ship for the past few years, pinching pennies as the recession demanded, and keeping a wary eye on your cash flow. This month sales will boom and you'll finally get a chance to loosen up and do some much needed spending, whether on new equipment or new employees.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Those born under the sign of Cancer are sitting at the bargaining table this month. But Cancers' typical hardline stance will do them no favors this time, as the lines of lucrative communication are clouded. Take some time to back off and rethink your plan, and then try again with a new approach the second week of December. And don't forget to read our handy guide to expert negotiating.

Leo (July 23-August 22)
Over the past few months, Leos have been thinking a lot about upgrading their work space, whether it be their office or the company warehouse, but they just haven't come across any spectacular deals. December will shed light on the bargain you've been waiting for, as the new moon shines on your house of real estate. Take a gander at our tips for finding the perfect office space.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)
Most entrepreneurs have undergone a phase when they related all too much to R.E.M.'s lyrics, "the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone." On page, owning your own business is the ultimate freedom, but in practice the stress and hours needed can be overwhelming. Virgos may be experiencing some existential malaise over these next few weeks as Jupiter is in retrograde, but, don't fret, things will be looking up after the new year. For the time being, read our guide to dealing with a rut.

Libra (September 23-October 22)
Planets in retrograde have stalled Libra's progress on office projects for the last few weeks. No matter how hard you worked, the end result always turned up short. Well, buck up! Venus, your guardian planet, and Jupiter, the giver of gifts and luck, are popping back up into your chart at the beginning of December making challenges ahead a lot less daunting.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
The stars show that the first weeks of December will bring an unanticipated financial transaction into your sphere. Are you prepared? Focus on getting your cash flow straight now, so you can tackle the issue with ease when it arrives. We have just the thing to help: Cash Management Basics.
