App week: Google Docs for Android, Homer on iPhone

APP NEWS:

Android app news: Google Docs gets native app
What a lovely addition to the Android Market Google has fashioned here. The native Google Docs app for Android allows you to create and have access to your cloud documents in a beautifully clean interface, but also has a special trick up its sleeve. There's an OCR reader on-board to enable you to take pictures of text and then transform them into editable documents.

iPhone app news: You made a wrong turn, Doh!
TomTom has added Homer Simpson to its stable of turn-by-turn voice artists for its iPhone app. The £2.99 add-on to the app will feature some signature lines voiced by Simpsons' voice actor Dan Castallaneta. Homer joins the likes of Darth Vader and Yoda as TomTom celebrity voices.

Android news: Gtalk video chat incoming
Android is getting its very own FaceTime competitor in the shape of the trusty old Gtalk IM app. Android 2.3.4, which is coming to Gingerbread phones, will feature a new version of the client which will allow video calls over Wi-Fi and 3G to Android 2.3 phones and Google Mail users.

iPhone app news: If you're not yet completely bored of...
...Charlie Sheen, there's an app for that. The MaSheen app for iPhone features a host of the Mind Torpedoes and Fastballs of Truth from Hollywood's No.1 screw-up. The £1.79 app will give you your fill of Charlie on the go, but truth be told we had our fill of him the first time somebody quoted "Duh, winning."

APP REVIEWS FROM THE T3 APP CHART:

iPhone app review: Championship Manager 2011
The season is about to reach its climax, leading to a long, boring summer of cricket and tennis for die-hard football fans. One way to escape that is to continue the season all year round with a dose of Champo on the iPhone. It's a slightly scaled down version of the desktop classic, but remains a complex and enjoyable run-out.

iPad app review: AmpliTube
How about turning your iPad into a fully-functional guitar amp, complete with a whopping 11 different effects pedals to create every sound from Seattle grunge to good old British heavy metal? AmpliTube  for iPad ably performs that task. Just plug in your guitar thanks to one of the available add-ons and you're good to go.

BlackBerry App review: Battles Unlimited
Some games transcend the sophistication offered by the modern smartphone and battleships is one. Battles Unlimited for BlackBerry. This free game offers all the standard fun of playing against the computer, against another player on the same handset but also against random opponents online. All three work well and for free it's one helluva bargain
