Motorola Xoom tablet given golden Oscars makeover

With Sunday’s Oscars fast approaching Motorola has announced it is to spruce up the stars’ glamorous goodie bags by including a limited edition gold Motorola Xoom tablet.

Launching in the US today, the Xoom is Motorola’s first venture in to the tablet market and will touchdown as the first device to host Google’s Android 3.0 tablet-specific Honeycomb operating system.

Set to land in the gift bags of the event’s hosts as well as nominees for the Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Director gongs, the golden-hued Xoom tablets will come equipped with a luxury custom leather envelope case.

Whilst Motorola will be hoping its enforced celebrity endorsed giveaways will help the Xoom capture the public’s tablet interest, the 10.1-inch dual-core, dual camera touting tablet will face stiff competition not only from the market leading iPad and recently unveiled fleet of Android competitors but the iPad 2 which has been confirmed for unveiling next week on March 2nd.

Currently undated or priced for release in the UK, the Xoom will hit British soil touting 32GB of in-built storage, expandable via SD card, a 720p HD video recording capable 5-megapixel rear-mounted snapper and 2-megapixel forward-facing camera. Although not set to support Flash video content from launch in the US, Adobe has announced a software update will bring Flash compatibility to the Xoom in "a few weeks", well ahead of a UK Q2 arrival.
